If I had to measure the distance from the ground where it was, I guess I would say it was about 15 stories high.
It had been raining a couple of days prior to that and it was really cloudy. We could see the formation of lights (that flashed a bit, then stopped) thru the clouds as it flew along at a moderate speed.
We only watched it for about 20 or 30 seconds. It quietly flew/glided directly over my apartment complex and I can't believe no one else saw it.
There was no wind that night. I'm in the north part of Dallas and the picture was taken in Oak Cliff, which is in the south. So it flew North to South.
According to whoever posted the picture on Facebook, it was taken a little before/after approximately 8 pm. My son and I got out of our car around 8:10 pm headed inside, so I'm guessing it was the same object.

A week ago, I had been in Neepawa, Manitoba, for a writers' event in Margaret Laurence House, and casually glanced through a copy of the Neepawa Press, the local paper. In its version of a "Police Blotter," the "Cops Corner" noted very simply: "a driver reported a UFO sighting. Members were unable to confirm." The date on the newspaper was September 26, 2012, on page 7.
Then, I received a Facebook message from a friend who tipped me off to something that happened in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on Saturday, September 29, 2012. The story was that 5 (five) police cars responded to a call from a resident who reported seeing a bright light high in the eastern sky. When I phoned the witness, he confirmed that several police showed up, and they watched the UFO with him. In their opinion, they told him it was nothing but "Saturn." Now, that would have been odd, since Saturn isn't up at 4:30 am when this was observed. But Jupiter was, exactly in the right spot. Furthermore, the witness said he saw it on consecutive nights in the same part of the sky, which pretty much nails it.
Finally, completing the quad of Manitoba news, I learned that a Hollywood-style movie has been made concerning the famous Falcon Lake case. Well, it had to happen, sooner or later. The movie was "inspired by" the Falcon Lake UFO case of 1967. It's titled "Rulers of Darkness", and has already been filmed, and awaiting distribution. The producer asked me if Winnipeg would be a good site for the world premiere. I say yes.
It's a VERY fictionalized version of the noted UFO landing case, and is more of a SF/thriller/chiller than a re-enactment of the incident, as far as I can tell. From IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2258212

Call for somebody his revolutionary observations about this?
Amateur astronomers, of course. They are deep observers, out both night peering at the sky. If The Fittingness Is Out Hand over, then place astronomers would be reporting far and away the mammoth main part of UFOs. But they don't. Why not? Seeing that they understand the sky! [Emphasis in revolutionary] They value since a flash light is Venus, or a satellite, or a military glisten, or a hot air balloon, and so they don't report it.
That, to me, is the slaughterer state of affairs that aliens aren't visiting us. If they were, the place astronomers would spot them.

We've been waiting for pioneering FX man and fantastic director Douglas Trumbull to announce more about his ambitious, cutting edge sci-fi projects, ever since our man Craig Skinner talked to him about them in 2011.
What I wasn't expecting to learn is that he's already finished one and is hoping to screen it in August.
UFOTOG, which is a pseudo-acronym for Unidentified Flying Object Photography, is a short film about a man attempting to take pictures of a UFO.
According to The Hollywood Reporter - who repaid Trumbull for speaking to them by giving their story a horrendous headline - the film runs to 10 minutes and was shot in 3D at 4k resolution and 120 frames per second.
This, Trumbull says:
is less like a movie and more like a live event. The screen becomes a giant window onto reality.
Which is exciting and inspiring, I think, as long as the peculiarly cinematic powers of composition and editing remain. Throwing those out in pursuit of a proxy stage play would be a bad move.
Trumbull has described the lead character of UFOTOG, as played by the actor Ryan Winkles:
He's very smart, a serial entrepreneur, like Elon Musk. So he has the wherewithal to get a really good camera and build a system on a mountain top.
And so I'm sure his engagement with the UFO goes beyond a few quick snaps. Trumbull also has a plan for a feature length version of this same story, and I expect that's even less about hanging around at high altitude and hoping to spot a weirdly moving light.
The next step will be to screen the film. At the moment, the plan is to find somewhere in LA this August that can be equipped to show such cutting edge footage. It likely hasn't been easy for Trumbull to find venues, and it's not going to be simple for UFOTOG to play widely - at least not in its native form, or at any time soon.
There's another twist to this story, as while Trumbull has been busy making a film about a man trying to photograph a UFO... he's been trying to photograph a UFO. Here's a video about the lengths he's gone
Some talk in there has left me wondering how much the film is going to blend fact and fiction. Trumbull seems as passionate about UFOs as he does cutting edge cinematography.
Now, I've gone on the record about my love of 3D and high frame rate cinema several times before. I'm absolutely fascinated by what Trumbull is trying to pull off here, so I'll be watching closely. I'll keep you updated.

Ten years after the U.S. Air Force closed its books on the claim that a UFO crashed in Roswell, N.M., in 1947, a top Democratic Party figure wants to reopen the investigation into the cosmic legend.
Despite denials by federal officials, many UFO buffs cherish the notion that in early summer of 1947, a flying saucer crashed in rural Roswell, scattering alien bodies and saucer debris across the terrain.
Now Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico, who chaired the recent Democratic convention in Boston, says in his foreword to a new book that "the mystery surrounding this crash has never been adequately explained -- not by independent investigators, and not by the U.S. government.... There are as many theories as there are official explanations.
"Clearly, it would help everyone if the U.S. government disclosed everything it knows," says Richardson, who served as Energy secretary under President Bill Clinton. "The American people can handle the truth -- no matter how bizarre or mundane.... With full disclosure and our best scientific investigation, we should be able to find out what happened on that fateful day in July 1947."
The passage appears in a paperback titled "The Roswell Dig Diaries," published in collaboration with TV's SciFi Channel by Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster. The "dig" of the title refers to an archaeological dig at the supposed crash site.
A Richardson aide, Billy Sparks, confirmed the governor's remarks. Richardson "is interested in either debunking the story or (encouraging) full disclosure" of any unreleased records on the case, Sparks said.
To the Air Force, though, there is no mystery -- and there hasn't been for a long time. In 1994, the Air Force published "Roswell Report: Case Closed, " which asserted that so-called saucer debris was, in fact, the ruins of an unusual type of military research balloon, which contained hypersensitive acoustic sensors designed to detect the rumble of any Soviet A-bomb tests. A subsequent investigation by the U.S. General Accounting Office was unable to locate any unreleased records on the case.
Hence, Richardson's foreword drew scorn from veteran UFO investigators and science popularizers.
"We're kind of disappointed in Richardson for perpetuating the mythology of that thing," said Dave Thomas, president of New Mexicans for Science and Reason, a skeptics group in Albuquerque.
The grand old man of skeptical UFO investigators, Philip J. Klass, who has written for Aviation Week & Space Technology since 1952, said: "Gov. Richardson -- whom I previously admired -- is wrong about Roswell and too trusting of TV network promoters. After more than a third of a century of research, I have found no credible evidence of extraterrestrial visitors."
Andrew Fraknoi, a noted astronomy popularizer and critic of pseudoscience who teaches at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, called Richardson's foreword unbelievable.
"This continues to confirm that election or appointment to high office does not guarantee wisdom in all areas of human thought," he said.
But in a show of extraterrestrial bipartisanship, the executive director of the New Mexico Republican Party is taking Richardson's side. Greg Graves, a native of Roswell who suspects the crashed object was "something more than a weather balloon," wants to know what really happened in the Southwestern desert two years before his birth.
Still, Graves hopes the truth isn't disillusioning. That's because the saucer legend is so good for the local economy: "Thousands of people come to Roswell every year to visit the site and go to the museum. It's an incredible boon to the Roswell economy. Just think about 'X Files' and TV shows about Roswell.
"When I go around the country and tell people I was born in Roswell," he adds, "people ask: 'Do I think something crashed there?' "
