AIRLINER 'ALMOST HIT UFO' OVER SCOTLANDA PASSENGER jet came within 300 feet of a collision with an unidentified flying object as it came in to land at a Scottish airport, an investigation has revealed. By: David Scott Published: Wed, May 1, 2013
The object passed directly beneath the planeExperts have been unable to explain the object seen by the flight crew of an Airbus 320 as it descended towards Glasgow Airport. The encounter happened at an altitude of 3,500 feet over the eastern suburb of Baillieston.
The pilot, who reported the collision risk as "high", was descending in clear conditions with the sun behind when both he and the co-pilot saw a blue and yellow object looming at a range of about 100 metres. The pilots were baffled.
And the subsequent investigation by the UK Airprox Board, which prepares reports on near misses, has failed to clear up the mystery.
They said: "The object passed directly beneath before either of the crew had time to take avoiding action or had really registered it.
The encounter happened at an altitude of 3,500 feet over the eastern suburb of Baillieston."It appeared blue and yellow - or silver - in colour with a small frontal area and was bigger than a balloon."Search action was taken with no result."Additionally, a further detailed review of radar sources did not yield any conclusive data that matched the pilots' description of the encounter."
The pilot told investigators: "We seemed to only miss it by a couple of hundred feet, it went directly beneath us.
"Wherever we were when we called it in, it was within about 10 seconds.
"We couldn't tell what direction it was going but it went right underneath us."
