The White House has officially confirmed that aliens aboard UFOs have not landed on the planet, nor have they contacted the human race.

In a response to two petitions posted to the White House Web site, the U.S. government said that "there was no credible evidence of extraterrestrial presence here on Earth."

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for UFO conspiracy theorists, White House officials went even farther. "The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race," wrote Phil Larson, a member of the Office of Science and Technology Policy at the White House, in a recent, though undated, blog post. "In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public's eye."

Larson's statement was a response to two petitions, requesting that the Obama Administration disclose the government's knowledge of and communications with extraterrestrial beings, and/or acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race.

Larson also highlighted efforts to search for evidence of alien life, such as SETI, the Kepler spacecraft, and the Mars Science Laboratory to be part of the next Mars rover, Curiosity.

Unfortunately, UFO watching sites such as The Object Report or Paranormal News did not themselves report or comment on the news, leaving one to wonder whether they supported the government's explanation, or considered it part of dozens of ongoing conspiracy theories. According to former National Aeronautics and Space Administration Data and Photo Control Department manager, Ken Johnston, who worked for the space agency's Lunar Receiving Laboratory during the Apollo missions, NASA, a government-funded agency, discovered evidence of alien cities on the Moon.

But Larson also held out hope.

"A last point: Many scientists and mathematicians have looked with a statistical mindset at the question of whether life likely exists beyond Earth and have come to the conclusion that the odds are pretty high that somewhere among the trillions and trillions of stars in the universe there is a planet other than ours that is home to life," Larson wrote.

"Many have also noted, however, that the odds of us making contact with any of them-especially any intelligent ones-are extremely small, given the distances involved."

It was right around dusk with the sun just setting and light still in the sky off to the west. Our group was sitting around a fire that we had made in our backyard. We noticed what looked like glowing orange paper lanterns flying in a line above the houses next door to the west. We noticed the slow moving orbs because the fire was putting hot ash into the air above the houses and we noticed the one orange orb moving slowly from west to east. I stood up and walked up a slight hill behind us toward the east about fifteen feet from the fire when I noticed there was a lot more than one of them in a row. They moved from the west to the east in a line slowly until the lead light vanished in the sky. The line of orange orbs continued in the same direction with the light in the front until all the lights eventually disappeared in the sky. We thought they might have been paper lanterns people put in flight for memorial day. before the last few orbs vanished moving from west to east we noticed that there was two more orange orbs that moved the opposite direction as the original orbs moving across the tree line from east to west. The direction of the second set of orange orbs moving towards the first set did not make any sort of sense with the wind direction out over the lake that night. The orbs being paper lanterns but moving at each other with a slight wind out of the south did not make sense that they moved towards each other. The orbs all just vanished into the sky after several moments passed. About an hour after we seen the first orbs at exactly 10:45 pm EST I noticed another object moving across the sky out of the south. This object looked like a faint white star moving from the south heading to the north. the group thought it was a shooting star but didn't have a tail stream behind it. As it moved out of the south it kept speeding up and slowing down. The thing startled the most when it started to pulsate in the sky from a large white orb back down to a small white star. Everything was silent except for our dog barking. We followed it for some time thinking it was a shooting star breaking up as it moved from the south out over the lake in the north. As moved right over top of us we noticed a second star moving from the west to the east toward the first star. Just before they looked like they was going to collide with each other over the lake the two lights stopped made two circle patterns in the sky with each other and then vanished. The group of us really want to know if maybe what we say was lanterns and shooting stars but things don't add up right to make any sense of the situation. Dr Melba Ketchum of the DNA Diagnostics Center claims to have analyzed samples of Bigfoot (aka Sasquatch) tissue and discovered that it is a hominin, a hybrid between humans and another, unknown, species.

Ketchum's is not the only genetics-based project intended to find Bigfoot. Earlier this year, researchers from Oxford University and the Lausanne Museum of Zoology announced they were collecting samples of alleged Bigfoot and Yeti hair for genetic identification. Oxford geneticist Bryan Sykes collected materials from the public from May through September, and is currently conducting DNA analysis. Once the results are in, he plans to submit his results to a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

If you're one of those naive and trusting souls who actually believes that the UFO phenomenon is benevolent, and that its presence on our world is somehow benefiting us, then "EVIL EMPIRE OF THE ETS AND THE ULTRA-TERRESTRIALS" is not the book for you!

I remember reading Turner's book when it was first published (I'm pretty sure I got it via Bob Gerard's much-missed Arcturus Books, as I was still living back in England then), and well recall the graphic story it told, as well as the not-always positive effects that interaction with the entities behind the UFO phenomenon (whatever they really are) can provoke.

And, if you have never had the chance to read "INTO THE FRINGE", well, that alone is reason enough to get hold of a copy of this new title from Tim B.

We're also treated to (A) papers on mind-manipulation by the others, (B) reports on what happens when E.T. turns bad, and (C) a very intriguing paper by Brad and Sherry Steiger titled "HOSTILE ENCOUNTERS WITH ALIEN INTELLIGENCES" that demonstrates the undeniable parallels between certain aspects of "alien abduction" lore, mythologies and centuries-old stories relative to fairies and incubus/succubi-style experiences, and even links with the afterlife and the realm of the dead.

It's books like this one that convince me more and more that the E.T. "meme" is one purposefully spread by these "things" to encourage beliefs that we have in our presence friendly (or, at least, benevolent) entities from some far away world who are here to help.

But, when one looks at cases like that of Dr. Karla Turner, the undeniably negative aspects of many encounters, and the phenomenon-initiated manipulation and deception that run rife in such cases, it becomes clear that we are being used in some fashion - and for purposes not entirely apparent.

Maybe it has always been that way, ever since the phenomenon manifested as demons and gods thousands of years ago, as fairies and goblins in the Middle Ages, las long-haired Space Brothers in the 1950s, and - particularly in the 1980s and 1990s - as other-worldly, black-eyed dwarfs on an evolutionary decline.

Read this book, learn from it, and don't fall for the "friendly E.T." ruse. For a ruse it surely is.

A former Boeing engineer was arrested this morning after being indicted last week on charges of economic espionage and acting as an unregistered foreign agent of the People's Republic of China (PRC), for whom the engineer stole Boeing trade secrets related to several aerospace programs, including the Space Shuttle.

In the case of Chung, the DoJ announcement noted that "individuals in the Chinese aviation industry began sending Chung "tasking" letters as early as 1979. Over the years, the letters directed Chung to collect specific technological information, including data related to the Space Shuttle and various military and civilian aircraft. Chung allegedly responded in one letter indicating a desire to contribute to the "motherland."

We suspect that the interest in former intelligence officers and their "UFO hobby" has more to do with the possibility of similar acts of espionage and collection than cover-up of alien visitations. In a curious twist we were recently informed that a primary AVIAN "witness" to the extraterrestrial core story will be moving to China in the near future.

According to the indictment, between 1985 and 2003, Chung made multiple trips to the PRC to deliver lectures on technology involving the Space Shuttle and other programs, and during those trips he met with officials and agents of the PRC government. The indictment alleges that Chung and PRC officials exchanged letters that discussed cover stories for Chung's travel to China and recommended methods for passing information... The indictment describes a May 2, 1987 letter from Gu Weihao, an official in the Ministry of Aviation and China Aviation Industry Corporation, which discussed the possibility of inviting Chung's wife, who is an artist, to visit an art institute so that Chung could use the cover of traveling with his wife as an excuse to travel to the PRC.

As for the Kuo and Kang case:

"Today's prosecution demonstrates that foreign spying remains a serious threat in the post-Cold War world. The conspiracy charged in this case has all the elements of a classic espionage operation: a foreign government focused on accessing our military secrets; foreign operatives who effectively use stealth and guile to gain that access; and an American government official who is willing to betray both his oath of public office and the duty of loyalty we rightly demand from every American citizen. Such espionage networks pose a grave danger to our national security, and we should all thank the investigators and prosecutors on this case for effectively penetrating and dismantling this network before more sensitive information was compromised," said Assistant Attorney General Wainstein.

Investigative journalist and author Gus Russo has suggested that the tales of spies, lies, and polygraph tape point to concerns about networks carrying sensitive information under the guise of UFO investigations. He also points to USAF OSI involvement in developing background for the UFO-USAF tales for counter-intelligence purposes.

It is instructive to consider how information about potentially sensitive exotic concepts for new technologies are transmitted on the Internet.

Consider today's real-life espionage affair:

Working under the direction of an individual identified in the complaint affidavit only as "PRC Official A," Kuo cultivated friendships with Bergersen and others within the U.S. government and obtained from them -- for ultimate passage to the PRC -- sensitive U.S. government information, including classified national defense information. Much of the information pertained to U.S. military sales to Taiwan.

Bergersen, a Weapons Systems Policy Analyst at the Arlington, Va.-based Defense Security Cooperation Agency, an agency within the Department of Defense, was charged with being the source of the classified information collected by Kuo. Kang, a citizen of the PRC and a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States, served as a conduit of information between PRC Official A and Kuo.

Meetings between Kuo and Bergersen took place at various locations in Northern Virginia, Charleston, South Carolina, and Las Vegas. On some occasions, Bergersen received undetermined cash payments from Kuo in exchange for information and documents he provided.

Kuo and Kang each face up to life in prison if convicted of conspiracy to disclose national defense information to a foreign government. Bergersen faces up to ten years in prison if convicted of conspiracy to disclose national defense information to persons not entitled to receive it.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) provided substantial assistance and cooperation throughout the course of the investigation.

SHIELD OF INVISIBILITY MYSTERIOUSLY CLOAKED AROUND PLANET EARTH

TEAM LED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO BOULDER HAS DISCOVERED AN INVISIBLE SHIELD SOME 7,200 MILES ABOVE EARTH THAT BLOCKS SO-CALLED "KILLER ELECTRONS," WHICH WHIP AROUND THE PLANET AT NEAR-LIGHT SPEED AND HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO THREATEN ASTRONAUTS, FRY SATELLITES AND DEGRADE SPACE SYSTEMS DURING INTENSE SOLAR STORMS.

SCIENTISTS HAVE DISCOVERED AN INVISIBLE SHIELD ROUGHLY 7,200 MILES ABOVE EARTH.

The barrier to the particle motion was discovered in the Van Allen radiation belts, two doughnut-shaped rings above Earth that are filled with high-energy electrons and protons, said Distinguished Professor Daniel Baker, director of CU-Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP). Held in place by Earth's magnetic field, the Van Allen radiation belts periodically swell and shrink in response to incoming energy disturbances from the sun.

As the first significant discovery of the space age, the Van Allen radiation belts were detected in 1958 by Professor James Van Allen and his team at the University of Iowa and were found to be composed of an inner and outer belt extending up to 25,000 miles above Earth's surface. In 2013, Baker -- who received his doctorate under Van Allen -- led a team that used the twin Van Allen Probes launched by NASA in 2012 to discover a third, transient "storage ring" between the inner and outer Van Allen radiation belts that seems to come and go with the intensity of space weather.

The latest mystery revolves around an "extremely sharp" boundary at the inner edge of the outer belt at roughly 7,200 miles in altitude that appears to block the ultrafast electrons from breeching the shield and moving deeper towards Earth's atmosphere.

"It's almost like theses electrons are running into a glass wall in space," said Baker, the study's lead author. "Somewhat like the shields created by force fields on Star Trek that were used to repel alien weapons, we are seeing an invisible shield blocking these electrons. It's an extremely puzzling phenomenon."

A paper on the subject was published in the Nov. 27 issue of "Nature".

The team originally thought the highly charged electrons, which are looping around Earth at more than 100,000 miles per second, would slowly drift downward into the upper atmosphere and gradually be wiped out by interactions with air molecules. But the impenetrable barrier seen by the twin Van Allen belt spacecraft stops the electrons before they get that far, said Baker.

The group looked at a number of scenarios that could create and maintain such a barrier. The team wondered if it might have to do with Earth's magnetic field lines, which trap and control protons and electrons, bouncing them between Earth's poles like beads on a string. The also looked at whether radio signals from human transmitters on Earth could be scattering the charged electrons at the barrier, preventing their downward motion. Neither explanation held scientific water, Baker said.

"Nature abhors strong gradients and generally finds ways to smooth them out, so we would expect some of the relativistic electrons to move inward and some outward," said Baker. "It's not obvious how the slow, gradual processes that should be involved in motion of these particles can conspire to create such a sharp, persistent boundary at this location in space."Another scenario is that the giant cloud of cold, electrically charged gas called the plasmasphere, which begins about 600 miles above Earth and stretches thousands of miles into the outer Van Allen belt, is scattering the electrons at the boundary with low frequency, electromagnetic waves that create a plasmapheric "hiss," said Baker. The hiss sounds like white noise when played over a speaker, he said.

While Baker said plasmaspheric hiss may play a role in the puzzling space barrier, he believes there is more to the story. "I think the key here is to keep observing the region in exquisite detail, which we can do because of the powerful instruments on the Van Allen probes. If the sun really blasts Earth's magnetosphere with a coronal mass ejection (CME), I suspect it will breach the shield for a period of time," said Baker, also a faculty member in the astrophysical and planetary sciences department.

"It's like looking at the phenomenon with new eyes, with a new set of instrumentation, which give us the detail to say, 'Yes, there is this hard, fast boundary,'" said John Foster, associate director of MIT's Haystack Observatory and a study co-author.

UFO SIGHTINGS 2013 - AUGUST 9, MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, USA

A recent amazing UFO sighting was witnessed over a basilica in Minneapolis on August 9, 2013. Two UFOs were filmed landing on the city after making stange movements in the sky. UFOs in company were observed changing color as well.

EYEWITNESS STATES:

I was walking to downtown, from my place in uptown, via Loring Park. I spotted two objects hovering in the NE sky. At first I didnt pay much attention to them as I thought it was just helicopters perhaps. But then, one looked like it was sort of checking out the Basillica. Im not sure how far away they were, so it may have just been a quirk of viewpoint and unrelated to the Basillica.

That struck me as interesting so I decided to record them with my Galaxy Note 2 phone. I also tried to get enough reference points in some of the shots to triangulate size if someone is interested in doing so. Im not sure what the objects were. Im inclined to think they were manmade. They werent helicopters though, at least not normal sized ones.. nor did they have the correct lights for that sort of vehicle. (Perhaps Im mistaken?)

The objects themselves were dual colors. They looked like two square lights of some sort attached to one another, which you cant tell from the video due to the low quality. If I remember correctly the colors were a solid blue and green, but dont quote me on that... I cant recall for sure. In the video each object appears a different color versus each being a dual color.

Before I started to record, the second object had been hovering back and forth. Its the object you see hover up from the lower left in the video.

My feelings and reactions: Curiosity more than anything. Like I said, I think it was probably something of terrestrial origin and someone either testing out some kind of say.. drone, or something, or putting on a show of some sort with rc craft. They kind of reminded me of those small automated drones from some of the universities you see videos of doing synchronized flying. That or perhaps small RC craft (but silent). At first I thought there might be some sort of propeller sound, but it was just downtown noise.. As I made my way downtown no one else seemed to have noticed anything. (it was busy downtown)

How did I lose sight of the objects? See the video. They did their thing and then flew off. The second one looked like it had been landing or taking off before I started recording. Its hard to tell for sure though without a better idea of distance though.

He can nail down this (the austerely thing is he doesn't swank phone call access). Now it was about 5:00 pm and we were identify from Waxen Deseed to Langley/Aldergrove (I'm directionally challenged so I can't tell you if it was east or west). As we were difficult we saw off in the separate from - conceivably 2 miles or so old hat a very horrendous black shore up gliding slowly over the tree line. It looked feel affection for a aircraft or a cigar shaped object. It must swank been adult seeing as we could honestly see it from wherever we were. We witnessed the cigar shaped object for about 2 account. I can't say if put on was a great or not being we were too far off. My combine was very faint as he shy pointing to the object. He had innovative odd thing come about about 8 time otherwise even though in the car beside a soul mate. A blue flickering division entered his car, hovered and as a result shot out of the car. Any he and his womanly soul mate were amazed, they harsh forgot about the tradition austerely to be more exciting it a see last. A couple of years ago, my good mate, Jon Downes (ye olde Director of the Center for Fortean Zoology) launched an ambitious new project - namely to commission, edit and publish a series of books that would chronicle the many and varied strange creatures of the British Isles.

Up until just a few weeks ago, there were three titles in this series on the market from the CFZ - Glen Vaudrey's MYSTERY ANIMALS OF THE BRITISH ISLES: THE WESTERN ISLES; Neil Arnold's MYSTERY ANIMALS OF THE BRITISH ISLES: KENT; and MYSTERY ANIMALS OF THE BRITISH ISLES: NORTHUMBERLAND AND TYNESIDE by Mike Hallowell.

Well, I'm pleased to say that there is now a brand new edition to the growing MYSTERY ANIMALS OF... series. This one isn't strictly a county-based book, however, as it covers the whole of Ireland and comes to us courtesy of cryptozoologist Gary Cunningham and surely the funniest (in every sense of the word!) man in Forteana, Ronan Coghlan, who my wife, Dana, refers to as a "lovable hoot"!

I read this book in two sittings, late at night and into the early hours, and while sprawled out on the settee, and I can say for certain that this is an absolutely excellent addition to this on-going series of titles.

What Gary and Coggers have done, is to finally, definitively, and once and for all, offer the reader a comprehensive, in-depth, and very well-written study of the many and varied mystery animals of Ireland that cover centuries-past to the present day.

And a fantastic and weird bunch of creatures they are too! We are treated first to an absolutely excellent study of Ireland's lake-monster sightings and reports - and it's a study that leaves me in no doubt (and, in all likelihood, it will leave you in no doubt either) that these strange and elusive beasts - whatever they may ultimately prove to be - are utterly real, albeit frustratingly elusive.

Whether they are some form of unknown and unclassified entities, giant eels, or something else entirely, Gary and the Cogmeister demonstrate that Ireland has been, and arguably still is, saturated with such beasts.

Graphic reports of close encounters (and, in some cases, "very" close encounters) with such animals abound in the 168-pages of the book, and the authors also provide us with some little-known and brand-new tales of the lake-monster variety. Truly, for this comprehensive data alone, MYSTERY ANIMALS OF THE BRITISH ISLES: IRELAND makes for indispensable reading. And, on a similar issue, you'll also find much to ponder on with respect to Ireland's sea-serpents, as well as tales, legends and folklore of a definitive mermaid variety.

Moving on from the creatures of the deep, we get to learn a great deal about a seldom-covered topic: werewolves and other Irish shape-shifters. This is a brief, but very informative, chapter that tells us much about the rich folklore of Ireland and its attendant belief-systems, and is required reading for devotees of all-things of a werewolf nature.

And if ancient tales of Bigfoot and wild men are your personal cup of tea, well, you will be very pleased, since both are profiled in a section of the book that will fascinate all Bigfoot researchers who wish to have an understanding of the state of play outside of the usual "mystery ape" locales of North America, Tibet, and China.

Of course, mysterious and out-of-place large and exotic cats put in a welcome and significant appearance, as does the Irish wildcat. And: did you know that Ireland may once have been home to a colony of "dwarf wolves"? Well, you do now, and there's no excuse for not finding out all about them, courtesy of our fearless authors.

And, there are sections on animals that seem to be far more paranormal and supernatural in nature than they do flesh-and-blood - a topic that many cryptozoologists shy away from, but that our authors, to their credit, astutely realize are an integral part of monster-hunting.

Finally, no book on the mysterious creatures of Ireland would be complete without a comprehensive study of the Dobharchu or "Master Otter" - a Goliath-sized otter rumored to roam the wilds of Ireland. And, I'm pleased to say, the authors do the fascinating story much credit, and reveal thought-provoking cases, as well as theories relative to the identity and origins of this legendary critter.

With Christmas looming, you should treat yourself (and your friends and family too) to a copy of this new title from Gary and his Royal Cogness, and acquaint yourselves with an excellent study of the animal-anomalies of Ireland.

Article in Newsweek: The Great UFO Hoax. We know we're in trouble right away with the opening sentence:

If you prefer to keep a little magic in your life-by which I mean believing in the possibility of UFOs...

SIGH. One does not "believe" in UFOs, any more than one "believes" in a car, or a toaster. And do not respond with "We know what cars and toasters look like." Begley can't even get close to the serious consideration of the UFO phenomena; she uses the word "possibility." The point here however is the use of the meme that it's UFOs that are in question. UFOs are not in question. They exist. They've been filmed, photographed, and witnessed by millions of people all over the world. What they are is the question, not that they are. As long as the so-called skeptic insists on framing the UFO phenomena in this way, any authentic dialogue will never happen.

All right. Moving on. Begley continues with the story about two young skeptoids in training who hoaxed a UFO sighting. What Begley and the two young men ignore is the fact that, the lights they sent up in the night sky appeared as something unknown to any witnesses, and therefore, it's a UFO. And in fact, as Kevin Randle points out in his piece on his blog, A Different Perspective, witnesses described exactly what they saw:

The second witness was presented by the news media by way of his 911 call to the police, said, "I walked out of my house, it's like these parachutes with these, uh, or balloons with these five lights flying over right now."

Seems to me that he hit the nail right on the head. No media types there to attempt to create the mystery for their broadcast. Just a witness seeing the five lights in the sky and suggesting balloons.

The local police, who offered a statement to KDTV said that the best guess was a prank with road side flares attached to helium balloons. Seems to me that the police nailed that as well.

Of course the hoaxers repeated the skeptoid meme that UFO researchers are out to make a quick buck. What ever are they thinking? For every show like a UFO Hunters, which, presumably, everyone makes some money from (and why shouldn't they?) there are thousands of UFO researchers who make very little, if any, money from their UFO interests. Even if they've written books, speak, appear on television, etc. very few make money, certainly not enough to count as a liveable income.

By the way, do Joe Nickell, Michael Shermer, James Oberg, McGaha, Bill Nye, and Randi make money from their skeptibunkie endeavours?

Okay, so the lights were a hoax. And this proves what? It serves as a reminder to be as careful as one can in field investigation; mindful advice for any researcher. It also proves that there are those more concerned with creating distractions from real investigation, research and exploration. For every hoax, there are thousands of non-hoaxes, with no answers. Easier to pull stunts like this within a smug self congratulatory attitude, instead of a brave and honest look into what's going on up there. The hoax, on the surface, may seem to be nothing more than a heads up to everyone to think critically and calm down. However, what really happens when these stunts are performed by the chronically skeptoid minded is that the UFO question has been solved. The meme has already been released: hoax UFO, therefore, all UFOs are hoaxes, duh. The desire and the honest investigation into all things UFO, from sightings to lights in the sky to abductions, will never be pursued because it's all just flares and fishing line; why bother? There's no there, there...and we can go about our business, while ignoring the crazy, shape-shifting, weird objects in teh sky right above our heads.

Most of all, it is the shameful and lazy idea prevalent in the skeptibunkie culture that hoaxes like this "proves' that there are no UFOs. In a reverse way, their efforts and insistence that what they do promotes "critical thinking" does nothing of the kind. For what kind of logic is it that says: "Since there are hoaxed UFO events, there are no UFOs." The mistake here isn't that some UFOs turn out to be IFOs (Identified Flying Objects) or objects with mundane explanations, or that people sometimes make assumptions (ET) and so on. It's the idea that all of UFO research is pointless. In their own words, the two hoaxers wrote:

Does this bring into question the validity of every other UFO case? We believe it does.

No, no it doesn't.

As Greg Bishop wrote on his blog UFO Mystic:

The data would suggest that the skeptics are correct, but the debate has been framed in the wrong context. Fundie skeptics nearly always lump all UFO cases together, as if anything unknown in the sky is representative of all cases throughout history, especially from the 20th century to the present. To this mindset, the lack of hard evidence for one is enough to throw the rest of the UFO reports out with the bathwater. This is a classic CSICOP ploy: Find the easiest case to debunk, and frame it as representative of all issues associated with it. at least by their definition. Believers, for the most part, ignore normal explanations because it detracts from their case for unidentifieds, and the "only answer," which has to be extraterrestrials.

Hoaxes like this do not solve or answer a thing. They don't put UFO research to shame. They are distractions, time wasters; as well as reminders to be ever cautious, not a bad thing. But any smug feeling on the part of the "skekptic" that this hoax, or any hoax, somehow showed up UFO research in a bad way is misguided at best.
