Time: Evening.

I have never seen anything like this. I live in central Colorado, I was sitting in the backyard and saw a large triangular shape of lights, pretty much outlined with white lights, fly from the east to the west.

I didn't believe I saw it, continued to look in the sky and saw the same pattern fly from the north to the south, as it got into the southern region, it zig zagged across the sky. Still not believing, but now questioning what the hell I've seen, I tell my wife about it, she goes to bed.

I went back outside, to see it again twice go from the north to south, then east to west. Then in the northwestern part of the sky, see what looks like 2 of them, split away from each other and fly then to the south.

I am not what you would call a "believer", but I have definitely been seeing this thing or things flying across the Colorado skies as well.

"Scientists using NASA's Kepler, a space telescope, recently discovered six planets made of a mix of rock and gases orbiting a single sun-like star, known as Kepler-11, which is located approximately 2,000 light years from Earth.

"The Kepler-11 planetary system is amazing," said Jack Lissauer, a planetary scientist and a Kepler science team member at NASA's Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. "It's amazingly compact, it's amazingly flat, there's an amazingly large number of big planets orbiting close to their star - we didn't know such systems could even exist."

In other words, Kepler-11 has the fullest, most compact planetary system yet discovered beyond our own.

"Few stars are known to have more than one transiting planet, and Kepler-11 is the first known star to have more than three," said Lissauer. "So we know that systems like this are not common. There's certainly far fewer than one percent of stars that have systems like Kepler-11. But whether it's one in a thousand, one in ten thousand or one in a million, that we don't know, because we only have observed one of them."

All of the planets orbiting Kepler-11, a yellow dwarf star, are larger than Earth, with the largest ones being comparable in size to Uranus and Neptune. The innermost planet, Kepler-11b, is ten times closer to its star than Earth is to the sun. Moving outwards, the other planets are Kepler-11c, Kepler-11d, Kepler-11e, Kepler-11f, and the outermost planet, Kepler-11g, which is twice as close to its star than Earth is to the sun.

"The five inner planets are all closer to their star than any planet is to our sun and the sixth planet is still fairly close," said Lissauer.

If placed in our solar system, Kepler-11g would orbit between Mercury and Venus, and the other five planets would orbit between Mercury and our sun. The orbits of the five inner planets in the Kepler-11 planetary system are much closer together than any of the planets in our solar system. The inner five exoplanets have orbital periods between 10 and 47 days around the dwarf star, while Kepler-11g has a period of 118 days.

"By measuring the sizes and masses of the five inner planets, we have determined they are among the smallest confirmed exoplanets, or planets beyond our solar system," said Lissauer. "These planets are mixtures of rock and gases, possibly including water. The rocky material accounts for most of the planets' mass, while the gas takes up most of their volume."

According to Lissauer, Kepler-11 is a remarkable planetary system whose architecture and dynamics provide clues about its formation. The planets Kepler-11d, Kepler-11e and Kepler-11f have a significant amount of light gas, which Lissauer says indicates that at least these three planets formed early in the history of the planetary system, within a few million years.

A planetary system is born when a molecular cloud core collapses to form a star. At this time, disks of gas and dust in which planets form, called protoplanetary disks, surround the star. Protoplanetary disks can be seen around most stars that are less than a million years old, but few stars more than five million years old have them. This leads scientists to theorize that planets which contain significant amounts of gas form relatively quickly in order to obtain gases before the disk disperses.

The Kepler spacecraft will continue to return science data about the new Kepler-11 planetary system for the remainder of its mission. The more transits Kepler sees, the better scientists can estimate the sizes and masses of planets.

"These data will enable us to calculate more precise estimates of the planet sizes and masses, and could allow us to detect more planets orbiting the Kepler-11 star," said Lissauer. "Perhaps we could find a seventh planet in the system, either because of its transits or from the gravitational tugs it exerts on the six planets that we already see. We're going to learn a fantastic amount about the diversity of planets out there, around stars within our galaxy."

A space observatory, Kepler looks for the data signatures of planets by measuring tiny decreases in the brightness of stars when planets cross in front of, or transit, them. The size of the planet can be derived from the change in the star's brightness. The temperature can be estimated from the characteristics of the star it orbits and the planet's orbital period.

The Kepler science team is using ground-based telescopes, as well as the Spitzer Space Telescope, to perform follow-up observations on planetary candidates and other objects of interest found by the spacecraft. The star field that Kepler observes in the constellations Cygnus and Lyra can only be seen from ground-based observatories in spring through early fall. The data from these other observations help determine which of the candidates can be identified as planets.

Kepler will continue conducting science operations until at least November 2012, searching for planets as small as Earth, including those that orbit stars in the habitable zone, where liquid water could exist on the surface of the planet. Since transits of planets in the habitable zone of solar-like stars occur about once a year and require three transits for verification, it is predicted to take at least three years to locate and verify an Earth-size planet.

"Kepler can only see 1/400 of the sky," said William Borucki of NASA's Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., and the mission's science principal investigator. "Kepler can find only a small fraction of the planets around the stars it looks at because the orbits aren't aligned properly. If you account for those two factors, our results indicate there must be millions of planets orbiting the stars that surround our sun."

Kepler is NASA's tenth Discovery mission. Ames is responsible for the ground system development, mission operations and science data analysis. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., managed the Kepler mission development. Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp., Boulder, Colo., was responsible for developing the Kepler flight system, and along with the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado, is supporting mission operations. Ground observations necessary to confirm the discoveries were conducted at the Keck I in Hawaii; Hobby-Ebberly and Harlan J. Smith 2.7m in Texas; Hale and Shane in California; WIYN, MMT and Tillinghast in Arizona, and the Nordic Optical in the Canary Islands, Spain."

UFOs have been recorded shooting so near to planes that you would think they would hit them. This is a very rare occurrence of such an thing happening. NEWS STATES: Here's an interesting photos that been doing the rounds online, apparently taken after an Air China Boeing 757-200 was involved in a recent incident.

According to The Aviation Herald, the aircraft (registration B-2856) was performing flight CA-4307 from Chengdu to Guangzhou on 4th June 2013, when "a large bang was heard from the nose section of the aircraft and the aircraft performance worsened".

The Boeing 757 was returned to Chengdu for safety reasons and post flight examinations confirmed that the aircraft collided with a foreign object... but what type of object would cause this much damage?

A bird strike has been ruled out (due to lack of blood, feathers or other remains) and theories about the object have ranged from a chunk of ice to UFOs.

A few weeks ago, I posted a link to a website called The Ufologists, a collection of cartoon-art by the very talented Dennis Rano. A former political cartoonist, Dennis has taken the sacred art of the caricature and combined it with the field of UFO study ">INTERSTELLAR HOUSEWIFE: Dennis, I guess first-off I'll ask the obligatory question: When did you begin drawing?DENNIS RANO: Like everybody else, I drew as a child, but "never stopped".

IH: Why did you choose caricatures as your specialty?DR: It's fun to pull and tug at peoples faces!

IH: You are a member of the AAEC (The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists). Was there a process involved?DR: I joined the AAEC by simply applying and submitting political cartoons.

IH: Speaking of political cartoons, on your site you expressed a disappointment while working within politics. Have any of your political cartoons caused any "stir" or upset particular parties?DR: Oh yeah! I've upset both parties and their Liberal or Conservative followers! At one time in my career I had to have the Secret Service watch over me because I pissed off a third, or fourth party candidate for President. I have 80% Liberal and 20% Conservative views.IH: The "Secret Service"? Jesus. I can't decide if I should hug you or give you a "high-five"!

IH: Who are some of your favorite cartoonists, and of them, which were inspirations?DR: Al Hirschfield I would say has inspired me the most. My style has been called 'minimalist' by other caricature artists and I'd say that comes from admiring "The Line King". Other cartoonists would be Johnny Hart (BC), Larry Wright, Tom Toles, Ann Telnaes.IR: Minimalist or not, you catch the likeness of your subjects extremely well.

IH: Do you create any artwork outside of cartooning?DR: Nope. I dabbled in airbrushing but never got really excited about it. I'm strictly a pen and ink kinda cartoonist. I've been told to try tattooing but I'm not a fan of blood.IH: Yes, I imagine that would probably present a problem ;)

IH: Have you ever worked on a caricature of an individual that you felt you just couldn't capture the likeness of?DR: Yes. This usually happens when the person I'm caricaturing reminds me of somebody else that I know. That's when my mind begins to mix the faces together.

IH: Aside from the personal experiences listed on your site, what lead you to begin drawing caricatures of UFOlogists and other UFO-related individuals?DR: The world of politics, after 30+ years, wore me out! UFOs always interested me, so I changed my website around from dumb-ass politician caricatures, to that of Ufologists, real down-to-earth people.IH: Well, there are a few that I'm not sure are "entirely grounded", but compared to politicians, I totally understand.

IH: Do you listen to any music or a specific kind of music while working?DR: Not really. The only background noise is the TV on the National Geographic or "Discovery" channels. If I do have music it's Bluegrass because it's upbeat!IH: Personally, I have a soft-spot for Bluegrass myself, along with Irish Folk, Western Swing, Americana and Rockabilly.

IH: On your website, you mention a few sightings you've had over the years. The first took place in Iceland -- can you tell me more about that?DR: I was outside one night, burning trash and admiring the Aurora Borealis, when I saw an object that I "thought" was a shooting star. But where it stopped, it then took a "90 degree turn to the left" followed by "another" 90 degree left turn, then "another"! It made a perfect square, ending up where it started! I went back inside :)IH: I think I'd probably feel ok with classifying that under "Crafts that are Non-Conventional", lol.

IH: Do you believe that the beings/entities/whatever piloting UFOs are here to help us, or do you believe they are probably somewhat indifferent?DR: I don't believe they want to harm us or they would have cleaned us out by now. I think they might just be studying us. I wish them luck with that.

IH: In your opinion, are the UFOs extra-terrestrial in origin or other (some people feel they are inter- or hyper-dimensional beings, or possibly even "terrestrial" beings we have not discovered)?DR: I believe they're ETs and they arrived a long, long, long time ago. And like Carl Feindt I believe they live in the "oceans".IH: I've often wondered about that, myself.

IH: While we're on the topic of ETs, what are some of your favorite UFO/Abduction cases?DR: Travis Walton. And especially Betty and Barney Hill because they were abducted about 90 minutes from where I live.

IH: Dennis, as crazy as it may sound, I hear that some people actually "have a life" outside of UFO interests -- what activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of cartooning?DR: Watching football ("Philadelphia Eagles" fan) and hockey ("Flyers" fan). In the Summer, I like to visit the ocean.IH: I'm a Minnesota Wild fan, myself -- my partner and I are both hockey enthusiasts. Interestingly, I cannot stand any other sport.

Me and my friend both enjoy the outdoors and it was the weekend so we stay up late at times to star gaze. We were sitting outside hoping to catch a glimpse of some meteor showers. We found out later that the peak time for it was the 12th and 13th. We did manage to see very few. Anyway I was telling him of a time when I was a kid and me and my family saw a light shaped like a flame from a rockets engines hovering in the air about a mile from our home. As I was telling him this, a light just appeared in the sky. Same type of light as the one I saw the night before. It just appeared! This one was heading north. It was a bright white light that turned or orange and then it disappeared. I don't think meteors travel that slow do they? There was no noise from this one either. As I was heading west over the Williamsburg Bridge into Manhattan, I saw a relatively large box-like object moving very slowly in a southernly direction. From distance and size it seemed to be over the Hudson River and in the proximity 20's-40's streets of Manhattan. Approximately the same latitude of the Empire State Building. There was heavy low cloud cover, and the object did not appear to be higher than the Empire State Building. At first, it looked like a prop-plane with a sign behind it angled towards my direction and maybe flying against the wind. You see them advertising over the Hudson, but not usually during winter and with cloud cover. But, I could not see a plane at the front. There was normal helicopter traffic, and there is a heliport on the West Side Highway of Manhattan in the area where this object would have been flying over. I'm reporting this, because somebody else had to have seen this thing if it was a real object. I watch the skies over New York City all the time, and have never seen anything like this. At one point, I thought maybe it was a sky crane with a boxy payload, or Chinook helicopter blurred by clouds. It had to be at least that big. I thought a blimp, but it didn't have curved edges at all as you can see in the picture. This is my first post of this sort although I follow UFO reports in the media and find the topic interesting. I'm posting this just to see if anybody else saw this, or maybe could check out the pictures with better equipment. The photos were taken with a standard Iphone 4S. The object looked to be the size of small single family house.

It will land the evening of Aug. 5, 2012, PDT (early Aug. 6, EDT and Universal Time). One of Curiosity's 10 science instruments, the Radiation Assessment Detector (RAD) has been collecting data for three months, monitoring the natural radiation environment in interplanetary space. This information, particularly effects RAD has measured from recent solar flares, is crucial for design of human missions to Mars. In the past two weeks, the rover team has checked the status of the other nine of Curiosity's science instruments, powering them on for the first time since before launch. All the instruments passed these checkouts. "The types of testing varied by instrument, and the series as whole takes us past the important milestone of confirming that all the instruments survived launch," said Betina Pavri of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., science payload test engineer for the mission. "These checkouts provide a valuable calibration and characterization opportunity for the instruments, including camera dark images and a measurement of zero pressure in the vacuum of space for the rover weather station's pressure sensor." Curiosity's landing site is near the base of a mountain inside Gale Crater, near the Martian equator. Researchers plan to use Curiosity to study layers in the mountain that hold evidence about wet environments of early Mars. First, the spacecraft must get there. Today's maneuver nudged the spacecraft one-seventh as much as the flight's first course adjustment, on Jan. 11. After the first maneuver, the trajectory would have put Curiosity about 3,000 miles (5,000 kilometers) and 20 minutes away from entering Mars' atmosphere at the right place and time. Like that maneuver, today's combined two ways of using thruster engines while the whole spacecraft spins at two rotations per minute. The spacecraft's cruise stage carries eight thrusters grouped into two sets of four. The maneuver began with about three minutes of firing one thruster in each set to change velocity along the direction of the axis of rotation. Then, to push the spacecraft in a direction perpendicular to the axis, each set of thrusters was used for five-second pulses when the spacecraft's rotation put that set at the correct orientation. The maneuver used more than 60 of these pulses spaced about 10 seconds apart. "The purpose is to put us on a trajectory to the point in the Mars atmosphere where we need to be for a safe and accurate landing," said Mau Wong, maneuver analyst at JPL. The descent from the top of Mars' atmosphere to the surface will employ bold techniques enabling use of a smaller target area and larger landed payload than were possible for any previous Mars mission. These innovations, if successful, will place a well-equipped mobile laboratory into a locale especially well suited for its mission of learning. The same innovations advance NASA toward capabilities needed for human missions to Mars. As of March 29, the spacecraft will have traveled about 196 million miles (316 million kilometers) of its 352-million-mile (567-million-kilometer) flight to Mars. Uruguay. Now it's the Uruguayan government that's releasing UFO files (http://tinyurl.com/n6f6e2). It's getting harder to keep track of the countries that have made similar moves over the last 10 years. From France to Canada, England to Denmark, Brazil to Ireland, the global community is doing what the United States simply will not: Acknowledge reality.

As with most of its unofficial partners in disclosure, none of the documents released by Uruguay's air force, the FAU, were classified at the highest levels. The most restricted were once categorized as "Confidential." Maybe that's because there aren't any super cases in the South American nation's files. But the ones released by the FAU this week further erode the credibility of our own Air Force.

The signal-to-noise ratio - only 40 of the roughly 2,100 reports in the FAU's database remain unexplained - doesn't really matter. The officer charged with supervision and release, Col. Ariel Sanchez, had enough information to draw this conclusion: "The UFO phenomenon exists in the country. I must stress that the Air Force does not dismiss an extraterrestrial hypothesis based on our scientific analysis."

That analysis extended to trace effects like chemical alterations in soil samples from reported UFO touchdowns, as well as a dozen cattle mutilated with surgical precision. But the really commendable portion of the FAU report is its confession that military technology is useless against preventing the unauthorized exploitation of sovereign air space.

Most notable are two air force encounters with "luminous spheres" in 1986 and 1996. The former involved hot pursuit by jet fighters over Palmar Dam. The intruders high-tailed it "at a dizzying rate of speed" towards Argentina. But no sooner had the Pucara jets returned to base than the UFOs reappeared, as if determined to make a point and rub it in.

The same thing happened 10 years later, during military exercises at a FAU base in Durazno; interceptors couldn't corral the formation-flying intruders, and control tower operaters corroborated the incident. A UFO turned the tables in 1979 and pursued a jetliner en route from Paraguay. It drew so close that passengers were able to snap photos.

Compare this sort of candor to our own reality-challenged USAF. Despite eyewitness testimony and FAA radar evidence to the contrary (http://tinyurl.com/nly2u5), it refuses to confirm that F-16s pursued a massive UFO that flew near President Bush's Texas ranch in 2008. Our military clings sideways to the fiction that it hasn't collected UFO reports in 40 years, despite regulations requiring its pilots to do just that.

Not that there's anything wrong with Uruguay - no doubt a lot of fine folks live down there. But when you're forced to look to the Third World for transparency on issues clearly related to national security, there's more than the economy that's bankrupt.
