The Sleuth Is Out There Lakita Adams Directs State Ufo Investigations
By Annette Jordan ajordan@courier-tribune.com "Do you believe in UFOs?" Lakita Adams gets that question a lot and it's not just because of the pottery she carefully crafts. Among the celestial and planetary-themed vases at her home, there's a candle lantern adorned with UFOs floating down like leaves, a pencil jar with tiny blue ET's and a pitcher mesmerizingly dominated by the kind of big-eyed, big-headed alien made famous in TV shows like "The X-Files" and books such as Whitley Strieber's "Transformation." "I'm inspired and moved by cultural aspects of this," she confesses, "but I don't take it as fact." Rather, she views her job as finding the facts. A former Randolph County Schools teacher and environmental educator at the N.C. Zoo, Adams was recently selected as the state director of North Carolina for MUFON, an acronym for the Mutual Unidentified Flying Object Network. According to its website, the international, nonprofit, research organization investigates UFO sightings, collects data, promotes research and educates the public on the phenomenon. Adams is also the editor/writer for the state website (mufon-nc.com) and has been a field investigator for 12 years; however, her interest in mysterious objects dates back much further... to half a century ago, to the Winter of 1962-63. Adams was 9 years old. Read more at http://courier-tribune.com/sections/thrive-magazine/profile/sleuth-out-there-lakita-adams-directs-state-ufo-investigations.html.
