ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet has been assigned to a long-duration mission on the International Space Station, it was announced today. The assignment of the French-born astronaut was announced by ESA's Director General Jean Jacques Dordain in the presence of the French Minister for Higher Education and Research, Genevi`eve Fioraso, and the President of the French space agency, CNES, Jean-Yves Le Gall. The announcement was made in coordination with the international partners of the International Space Station. With Thomas Pesquet's assignment, all six ESA astronauts from the class of 2009 will have flown to the Station on missions within seven years of graduation.
The Director General noted: "Thomas' mission assignment concludes the first phase for our newest members of the ESA astronaut corps which was to make each of them assigned to a spaceflight.
"This is a clear demonstration of the reputation of ESA among the international partners of ISS as well as of ESA astronauts among the international community of astronauts. The flight experience gained by this new class of ESA astronauts is providing a solid ground for ESA Member States to contribute to further international human exploration missions."
Born in Rouen, France, Thomas will be the 10th Frenchman to go to space, following L'eopold Eyharts who supported the commissioning and first utilisation of ESA's Columbus microgravity laboratory on the Space Station.

As a partner in the Station, ESA is entitled to use its resources, which include supporting missions of European astronauts.
During Thomas' mission, an atomic clock will be installed on the Station to connect with other atomic clocks on Earth to test Einstein's theory of relativity and allow even more accurate world timekeeping. The results could double the accuracy of satellite navigation, allowing us to pinpoint our location on Earth with even higher precision.
Thomas studied as an aerospace engineer before working as a commercial airline pilot.
ESA's Director of Human Spaceflight and Operations and former astronaut, Thomas Reiter, says: "I remember this exciting moment of mission assignment very well, and I'm very happy that Thomas Pesquet is now in this situation.
"There is an exciting road ahead for Thomas, learning all the systems of the International Space Station and the unique scientific experiments that he will conduct in space."
Thomas comments on his assignment: "I am happy to have been selected for a mission but this is just the start of a new phase for me - there is a lot of work to do and a lot to learn before my flight.

We've gone from thinking that Earth's ocean is unique to thinking that our ocean may be one of many.
We've also learned that Earth harbors a deep subsurface biosphere, and that the mass of microorganisms beneath our feet, reaching down miles underground, likely equals or exceeds the mass of all the organisms on Earth's surface. This is a dramatically different picture of terrestrial life than the one we experience daily, and makes speculation about subsurface life on Europa or vestigial life on Mars seem much more credible. Our understanding of the Earth helps shape our thinking about other worlds, and vice-versa.
The prospects for finding life elsewhere seem better than ever. But we need to remember that prospects are not proof, and it may be possible that Earth is the only planet where life exists. That would seem extraordinary, and I doubt it's likely in a galaxy with 400 billion stars, but the honest answer is that we don't know yet. But we can use scientific exploration to try and find out.

That project was Bonnie Hunter's reproduction of a quilt she found in an antique store. This must be one of those quilting serendipity moments because I am supposed to go see Bonnie Hunter this weekend at the Northern Star Quilter's Guild show. I'd love to be able to see it done by then but I can't make that kind of promise considering my track record so far. But I do believe it's an easy quilt to finish and hope it will jumpstart all the stitching I am behind on.
Speaking of which my UFO progress so far:
The January UFO #5 Safari Stars and WAK Tryptich: The former still layered and awaiting quilting. The latter has not had any further composition work done on it.
The February UFO #1 Autumn Double Wedding Ring: I have made steady progress on this and am now down to the last two rows of arcs to be pieced to the centers. An update post can be read here.
The March UFO #8 Bouncing Colorblocks: I did start the quilting. All the ditch stitching is done so I just need to do the "fancy stuff" in the blocks and sashing blocks.
The April UFO #10 Brrr! Park: Still layered and awaiting pressing and quilting.

I am compelled to write this letter for a number of reasons. First, and most of all, because it directly affects what I have come to realize is the most important issue in human history. Secondly because I'm sick and tired of partial truths, spin doctors, and irresponsible acts by government agencies, big economic interests and individuals that stand in the way of the opportunity for the world to discover and begin to understand the UFO/ extraterrestrial reality.
I am founder of the Paranormal Research Forum based in Denver, "The nation's largest monthly gathering on any paranormal matters". My first UFO investigations began in 1987 and I have now devoted my life to become more aware of such matters. I have also had the honor and privilege of being the lead investigator on the Stan Romanek UFO/Extraterrestrial experiences in recent years. I, along with dozens of other credible individuals, have witnessed many events associated with Mr. Romanek that defy any scientific or rational explanation. Frequently these events were in the company of a number of top MUFON investigators. I don't believe my anger is directed at MUFON but at Mr. Carrion's personal actions although he functions as the Director of MUFON International.
In 1965 I was serving in Viet Nam in the US Armed Forces in Naval Air Intelligence. I was forced by a US Navy Captain sent by the Pentagon to meet with me and force me to hide critical information I had discovered in the course of my investigative duties that specifically pertained to our ability to end the war in extremely short order. I found the suppression of this critical information contemptuous. That is why I left the service and refused any offers made by the US Intelligence Agencies to recruit me.
I smell the same kind of rat here. I find Mr. Carrion's public comments regarding Mr. Romanek's experiences unprofessional and inexcusable. I have had more respect for MUFON's activities and efforts up to this point. I hope Carrion's comments on Mr. Romanek's experiences are not sanctioned by the MUFON organization. Top MUFON investigators I personally know and have worked with would never take a public position based on a small fraction of information and evidence associated with Mr. Romanek's experiences. Especially a misspelling on a document that is substantially inconsistent with a preponderance of indisputable empirical evidence involved with Mr. Romanek.
Mr. Carrion has taken a very specific isolated slice of confidential and proprietary information given him and delivered it in a public manner. This kind of action violates fiduciary responsibilities outlined by the MUFON organization. This violation of trust is not acceptable practice anywhere...ever. This kind of information is reluctantly shared with MUFON by individuals who are concerned about such misuse and abuse of proprietary information. If we're talking about credibility and integrity I think the intelligent public has to look at Mr. Carrion's actions very seriously.
Cofounder, and former Director of MUFON John Schuessler has always conducted himself, and his work, with high standards that I am not seeing in Mr. Carrion. If I'm not questioning Mr. Carrion's professionalism and competency then I guess I'm questioning his motivations. I see this conduct within our government, the commercial news media and other major economic interests threatened by the disclosure of the UFO/ extraterrestrial realities but not public watchdog organizations supposedly dedicated to understanding these matters with the highest of professional and ethical standards for the benefit of humanity.
While I agree that Mr. Carrion's comments regarding misspellings on a certain document are concerning I have to say that no responsible investigator would ever ignore the overwhelming amount of other evidence and witnesses solidly confirming his experiences. Is it possible a government agency could have set this up? It would be a clever way to discredit a case wouldn't it? I also wonder why Mr. Carrion has chosen not to check, or accept, the opinions of MUFON members and investigators that have been with Mr. Romanek during some of these unexplainable sightings and other highly unexplainable events? Their opinions seem to conflict with Mr. Carrion's and quite frankly they have more firsthand knowledge from personal experience. Perhaps this substandard methodology is because Mr. Carrion has never been a MUFON investigator and for some reason chooses not to accept experienced MUFON investigators opinions that have been closer to the matter!
Why would anyone go out of their way to taint public opinion on such an important matter all serious UFO investigators and researchers worldwide struggle to understand? Reading Carrion's comments I was originally very disappointed in with the MUFON organization taking such a leap to damage one of the world's best opportunities to begin understanding this amazing unfolding extraterrestrial reality. As I let Mr. Carrion's comments fester within me I realize I can't let this unprofessional action go without taking it on head to head. Especially knowing the powerful truths and realities I have reluctantly come to accept regarding Stan Romanek's bizarre and unexplainable experiences.
I will not allow the dozens of credible facts of Mr. Romanek's experiences over the past 9 years, and witnessed by hundreds, be undermined by the irresponsible actions of one individual placed in a high position of trust. Is this the new standard for MUFON? I can't imagine a 40 year old organization degrading its integrity to this level of behavior by its leadership.
Mr. Carrion seems to have forgotten about some investigating basics such matters are to be well informed, include all facts and information available, do not leap to conclusions or make assumptions on important matters, be professional, be ethical, be responsible and objective. Again I have to ask how and why you would take such a careless and irresponsible action? Every answer anyone can come up with is deeply disturbing.
In summary I would have to say "get it straight Mr. Carrion or get out of the way of capable individuals who are looking for the whole truth". This matter is far too important to let a loose cannon get in the way of the world's understanding of this historic shift into a greater reality.

It is a sad day in Ufology when a self proclaimed investigator personally attacks another investigator rather than the evidence/data being presented. Such is the case here with Rick Nelson. Rather than focus on the data I find troubling with the Stan Romanek case, Rick has taken the stance of the arch-debunker himself by personally attacking my credibility and motives.
First, he calls my remarks disparaging. There is nothing disparaging about examining data when in the search for truth. Rick can't even bring himself to properly validate my long investigative experience with MUFON. Perhaps he needs to subscribe to the MUFON Journal. I will be happy to send him the past issues where I authored a number of articles based on the investigations I personally conducted into such prominent cases as the Kinross Incidence, the California Drones, the Mexico Nayarit Photos, etc. Rick promotes himself as the lead investigator on the Romanek case, yet fails to explain how he glossed over the GIANT IMPOSSIBLE to miss red flags of the misspelled word fallow. Very thorough investigation indeed.
Witnessing a magic act in Vegas defies explanation as well, but does not make the experience supernatural or paranormal. It appears that Rick has lost all of his alleged investigator objectivity by supporting the Romanek case because of alleged eyewitness experiences while completely ignoring the material evidence that still awaits impartial analysis. Perhaps Mr. Nelson has personally validated the vast photo and video evidence that Romanek touts but which Romanek refuses to release publicly for forensic analysis.
Isolated and confidential? Neither. Nothing Romanek or any other investigator gave me on the Romanek case was given in confidence. Isolated? I would like to see Mr. Nelson present a valid scientifically based argument for how the word fallow shows up in more than five documents associated with the Romanek case, three documents from anonymous or "yet to be validated as real people" sources who support the Romanek case.
Finally, by alluding to me being some sort of debunker or agent of the government, without even attempting to explain the inconsistencies in the Romanek case, Nelson has stooped to the level of Phil Klass. In the words of Stanton Friedman, if you can't attack the data, then attack the person. Bravo Mr. Nelson. Phil Klass would be very proud.

Colin Andrews One-Two Punch and New Book Creates a Firestorm. As a Result the Ministryof Defence's Nick Pope Withdraws Much of the Official Government Statement on Crop
Circles and UFOs.

One of the more interesting facets of Colin Andrew's 'Operation Blackbird' was the D-notice served to Swindon's GWR station, preventing a live broadcast from the operation. The broadcaster involved was Dave Barrett, who emailed Colin after the event and stated the validity of his claims. Despite several FOIA attempts by myself the MoD have claimed that no such D-notice was served, or rather they had no documentary evidence of that fact. Using the text of the email, provided by Colin himself, I wrote to Air-Vice Marshal Andrew Vallance, who is the secretary of the Defence, Press and Broadcasting Advisory Committee. The committee is responsible for monitoring the DA Notices within the UK. (They used to be referred to as D-Notices but now re-titled to DA notices.) The committee is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) but the committee try to be as open as possible to avoid claims of cover-up.
In his response to my enquiry of the aforementioned D-notice, Mr Vallance is quite dismissive; "The phrase 'slap a D-notice on it' is commonly used by the media with great carelessness and to cover a multitude of circumstances. Claims such as that made by Dave Barrett carry no weight unless they can be supported by some form of documentary evidence". So the committee denies any D-notice was ever served, or rather, no evidence of it exists. There is a subtle difference. So has Dave Barrett lied? Unlikely, he stands to gain nothing by concocting such a claim. He is not involved in the crop circle phenomena as such, so gains absolutely nothing. We can look at the definite facts: for some reason the live broadcast from Operation Blackbird was cancelled. Swindon's GWR dedicated resources to this live broadcast so something significant would need to happen to cancel this live broadcast.
What this really points to is that someone, somewhere can use the power of the D-notice to cancel coverage of the crop circle phenomena, and can do it in a way that leaves no paper-trail or subjects anyone to any level of accountability for their actions. Again, the hidden-hand, the inner circle, the nameless ones, who can control situations with impunity, flex their muscle.
What this also highlights is that the MoDs 'UFO desk' is just a mickey-mouse public front that does not have any idea of the true scale of the UFO/Crop Circle phenomena. This also highlights the 'expert' status of the former MoD staff member Nick Pope. Nick had access to all the files that are currently being released by the MoD, and Nick claims no such D-notice was issued, so he has no knowledge of these inner workings and therefore we have to question why he still seems to publicise the official version of events when others such as Colin Andrews can blow huge holes in the 'official story'.
When I made a FOIA request to the MoD as to the extent of Nick Pope's role, the response was that Nick's general role was to "answer parliamentary enquiries, and correspond with members of the public on matters to do with UFOs," I believe that Nick's role was to front this public face of the MoD UFO desk, and broadly knows no-more than what is being released by the MoD anyway. Once all these files are released we will all know what Nick knows or had access to. The media views Nick as some expert and is regularly consulted, but his knowledge on what the MoD knows is very limited, so thus the information he provides the media with still toes the MoD line, he continues to do what he did for the MoD. And he generally plays down the MoD involvement with UFOs and Crop Circles. I have always been doubtful of 'game-keepers turned poachers', and I consider the media's continual courting of Nick rather than other researchers part of the conspiracy of silence.
The files being released are an attempt to fool the public, but as I have written and lectured on previously, the evidence of an inner-circle manipulating anything to do with UFOs and Crop Circles within the MoD is over whelming. The D-notice issue is not over yet, nobody is that good at continually covering their tracks, and I will shortly show, through 'their' mistake, that the D-notice was indeed issued. Stay tuned... @
